File Level/Exchange Item Level Restore Requirements
The partition must be NTFS/ReFS (through Instant Mount) (only for File Level) formatted
The partition must be formatted as ‘Basic’ and not ‘Dynamic’

Thank you,

Due it being easier to configure and troubleshoot.

We have been using a 4-node S2D mirror cluster for the better part of a year now and we are particularly interested in how Altaro plays with this technology.

We have been using Altaro on this cluster which backs up our Windows/Linux VMs just fine. However when it comes to the restore process that is where we have had an ongoing issue. Boot from backup verification tasks work just fine but boot from backup recovery or standard restore tasks end up dying 5-20 minutes into the job. Restoring VM backups from the S2D cluster to conventional Hyper-V clusters or standalone hosts works fine so it is not a corruption issue. It only appears to affect restore operations from any Hyper-V host to the S2D cluster.

We’ve been working with Altaro support on this for some time and have ruled out networking, permissions and quite a few other potential causes. At this stage could you please provide some form of documentation that states whether Altaro actually supports S2D clusters for both backup and restore operations? As we have not been able to find anything on this. We have contacted support many times with various team members suggesting it should work but have never received a definitive “yes S2D is supported”.

Any information on this would be fantastic. We are currently using Altaro 7.6.23.1
